WATCH: New Video Shows Alex Pretti Confronting Federal Immigration Officers Days Before Fatal Shooting

Minneapolis, MN — Newly surfaced video footage shows 37-year-old Alex Pretti confronting federal immigration officers on a Minneapolis street just 11 days before he was fatally shot during a separate encounter with U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

The video, which has since circulated widely online, captures Pretti shouting at a government SUV before kicking and damaging one of its taillights. The vehicle then comes to a stop, and multiple federal agents emerge and tackle him to the ground as bystanders look on and record the incident.

At one point in the footage, officers are seen deploying chemical irritants in the street while people nearby shout, honk their car horns, and film the confrontation on their phones. The scene quickly becomes chaotic as agents attempt to restrain Pretti.

A representative for Pretti’s family confirmed they were aware of the earlier incident and said he sustained injuries during the confrontation. However, the family said Pretti did not receive medical care afterward.

The footage has drawn renewed attention because Pretti was wearing clothing similar to what he had on during another encounter with federal agents on Saturday, January 24 — the day he was shot and killed. That fatal incident, involving Customs and Border Protection officers, remains under investigation.

The newly released video has raised questions about prior interactions between Pretti and federal authorities and whether warning signs were missed in the days leading up to his death. It has also fueled broader public debate over federal immigration enforcement tactics and the use of force during street-level encounters.

Officials have not indicated whether the January 13 confrontation played any role in the events that led to Pretti’s death, but the footage is now being reviewed as part of ongoing scrutiny surrounding the case.
