U.S. President Donald Trump is set to take part in a week-long national scripture reading initiative, joining other political leaders in a faith-centered event tied to the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
According to a report by USA TODAY, Trump will read a passage from the Old Testament—2 Chronicles 7:11–22—on Tuesday, April 21, as part of the “America Reads the Bible” program. The initiative has been described by organizers as a spiritual reflection on the nation’s founding values and a call to renewed faith.
The president’s reading, which has been pre-recorded, is scheduled to air between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET from the Oval Office. It will be streamed live via the event’s official website and the Pure Flix platform. While online viewing is free, attendees can also purchase tickets for in-person access at the Museum of the Bible, where the event is being hosted.
In a statement released earlier, Trump encouraged nationwide participation in the initiative, saying it would help “honor Holy Scripture” and “renew our faith,” while calling for a broader religious revival across the United States.
The announcement of his participation comes amid recent tensions between Trump and Pope Leo XIV, following controversy over an AI-generated image depicting the president in a Christ-like portrayal. The incident led to a series of public exchanges between the two figures.
Other senior officials expected to participate in the “America Reads the Bible” program include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, among others.
The event forms part of broader commemorations leading up to America’s 250th anniversary, blending civic celebration with religious observance.
